Tea Garden

When thinking about Japanese tea farms, one might think of the vast tea plantations of Shizuoka as you zip through the prefecture on the shinkansen bullet train. Our family business, however, is quite the opposite from this image.

Continuing in the second and third generation of tea growers, we take pride in the smaller and more personal scale of our operations. Over the years we have become the custodians of many tea fields in the Shizuoka area, including the unique gardens of Nihondaira. It is a local landmark, and our plantations are embedded inside a theatre park. When strolling through the landscape with occasional spectacular views of Mount Fuji it is obvious that the tea plants are considered part of this garden landscape; not just from a functional perspective, but also as a decorative garden element.

As it happens, our co-founder and second generation tea farmer Takaaki Ishii, is also a classical Japanese landscape designer. He took over the tea business from his father, as his responsibility and duty to continue on this legacy; but his true passion lies in landscaping. Realising that the two lie close enough together, he decided to pursue both.

When we think about our tea - we not only think about our products, but also our tea gardens and the experience associated with it. It is a way of life where tea plants are not just for production, but also a way of enjoying life. We envision it as a place to spend time with friends and family, to be in nature and connect with our heritage.
We challenge ourselves to offer a unique and pleasant experience that includes visiting the gardens with the opportunity to taste our range of teas. Come visit our unique hedge maze made of tea plants with a spectacular view of Mount Fuji, as well as our many events we hold throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you there.
